Once a flourishing town along the Ohio River, Cheshire, Ohio, was bought out by American Electric Power in the early 2000s, after residents expressed concern about emissions from the Gavin Power Plant, constructed three decades prior. Cheshire is now virtually abandoned, with only a few homes, a church, and a gas station remaining. Despite its enormous impact on the area, the power plant has slowly faded into the background for the region’s residents, becoming almost a natural feature of the local landscape.
