City Of Widows

Due to religious and cultural stigma, Indian widows are often considered undesirable, and are cast out of their families after their husbands die. Thousands seek sanctuary in the holy city of Vrindavan, India, where the Hindu god Krishna is believed to have spent part of his childhood. Here, widows spend the remainder of their lives in prayer, poverty, and self-denial. In 2007, CNN reported that 15,000 widows resided in Vrindavan.
